City of Joondalup hosts delegates from China’s aged care industry for international conference

The City of Joondalup hosted more than 60 delegates from China’s aged care industry for an inaugural international conference.

Health Minister Roger Cook officiallyopened the three-day event, titled Innovation: Solutions for an AgeingPopulation International Conference, at Joondalup Resort on September 12.

The conference was a collaboration between the City, Shanghai Science and Technology Service Centre for Ageing, Bethanie, Australian Medical Association (WA), ECU and Aus Global Exchange and attracted about 120 attendees.


Health Minister RogerCook officially opened the conference.

Topics included the changing landscape of healthcare in Australia, regulatory and economic outlooks, the future of agedcare development in mega cities, the challenges and opportunities of expanding services in a commercial world and an innovative education program to support aged care workforce.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the City secured hosting rights to the conference every two years after it led its own delegation to China last year as part of its International Economic Development Activities Plan.

He said the plan had long identified China as a priority market for development with a focus on key industry sectorssuch as education and training, tourism, health and medical and retail.

“While in Joondalup, a Chinese TV camera crew was documenting the conference and filming parts of the Joondalup region, potentially showcasing our City to an audience of 680 million people,” Mr Jacob said.

“As well as spending money in our City during the conference, boosting the local economy to the tune of $400,000, delegates will no doubt have returned home and told their family and friendsall that Joondalup has to offer.”
